- How to Pack Vespa Engine for Shipping
- Here we will show you how to package a Vespa Engine for shipping
- Remove the muffler and kick start lever to make the engine a more manageable size
- Begin with a flat piece of cardboard
- Set the engine on the cardboard
- Score the cardboard so it can be folded around the engine
- Start to form the cardboard into a tray around the engine and secure it to the engine
- We use an industrial strapping machine
- Assuming you don't have one you can just use heavy duty packing tape
- Make a similar shaped top piece to enclose the engine
- There is no exact method just shape it as you go along
- The idea is to get the entire engine covered in cardboard
- You want it to be as tight as possible around the engine
- Now get 24x24x24 box
- Make sure it is double walled cardboard
- Securely tape the bottom of the box with multiple layers of tape
- Use extra strength tape
- Fill it about half way with packing peanuts
- Place the engine inside
- The idea here is to have the engine suspended within the outer box so make sure it isn't touching the bottom
- If you are sending the muffler and kick start lever put it in now
- Fill the rest of the box with peanuts , packing it around the sides and top (it doesn't hurt to overfill it a little)
- Tape up the top
- Shake it and make sure there is no movement (if you can feel any movement, open it and add some more packaging material)
- We again use the strapping machine but you can just sufficiently tape it.
- Now tape all the way around the box in several places.
- No penalty for over-taping , but there can be a severe penalty for under taping
- Now you are good to go
